چکیده

The planning process of the Broadband Powerline communications access networks contains two main problem parts: the Generalized Base Station Placement (GBSP) problem and the PLC Channel Allocation Problem (PCAP). The GBSP is investigated/solved in our previous works. In this paper, we focus on the P-CAP. The task of the P-CAP consists in allocating a sub-set of channels from an available set of PLC channels to each base station in the BPLC site. Two optimization objectives are considered for the solution of this problem; namely the maximization of the resource reuse and the minimization of the generated interferences in the site. These objectives are conflicting, since the optimization of one of them results in the deterioration of the other. Therefore, this problem is modeled as a Multi-objective (or multi-criteria) Optimization Problem (MOP). Three variants of Pareto-based multi-objective algorithms, using evolutionary search, are used to solve it. Their performances are evaluated on four problem instances.

Placement of Base Stations in Broadband Power Line Communications Access Networks by Means of Multi-criteria Optimization

Broadband Power Line Communications (B-PLC) technology is an alternative for broadband access networks, allowing bit rates up to currently 200Mbps. This technique uses the wiring of the low-voltage grid in order to offer to the users the telecommunications services, such as Internet, VoIP, VoD, etc. The B-PLC design process is sub-divided into two parts: the Generalized Base Station Placement (...

Asymptotic Close to Optimal Resource Allocation in Centralized Multi-band Wireless Networks

This paper concerns sub-channel allocation in multi-user wireless networks with a view to increasing the network throughput. It is assumed there are some sub-channels to be equally divided among active links, such that the total sum rate increases, where it is assumed each link is subject to a maximum transmit power constraint. This problem is found to be a non-convex optimization problem and i...

Dynamic Channel Adaptation for AC Synchronized Powerline Channel

Broadband Power Line Communications (PLC) technology allows the usage of electrical power supply networks for communications purposes, such as audio/video streaming and broadband internet access. The powerline has an inherent characteristic that is the cyclic variation of channel and noise with the phase of the AC line cycle. To achieve either high throughput or high robustness, we apply dynami...

Broadband Characterization of Indoor Powerline Channel

For data communication over any medium, it is necessary to determine the characteristics of the communication channel. Powerline channel has been considered as a medium not only for low-rate, control purpose communication, but also for high-speed data communication, such as home networking and Internet access. In order to implement advanced communication technologies, the complete knowledge of ...

Multi-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey

Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...
